About the Siege
From 1992 to 1996, Sarajevo endured the longest siege of a capital city in modern history. Surrounded for nearly four years, its citizens faced constant shelling, sniper attacks, and shortages of food, water, and electricity. Over 11,000 people lost their lives, including more than 1,500 children.
Despite unimaginable hardship, Sarajevo’s spirit never broke. The city became a symbol of resilience, with underground tunnels, secret schools, and the enduring hope of its people keeping life alive behind the frontlines.
Our Fall of Yugoslavia Tour explores the sites and stories of this time, offering a powerful glimpse into Sarajevo’s past and the strength that still defines it today.
