This self-guided hiking tour invites you to explore some of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most untouched mountain landscapes, including the iconic Via Dinarica trail. Starting and ending in Sarajevo, the route follows ancient shepherd paths across the Dinaric Alps, passing through traditional villages, scenic ridgelines, and spectacular viewpoints.
You’ll hike to the summit of Bjelašnica, explore the remote Dragon village of Umoljani, marvel at the vast Rakitnica Canyon, and reach the stunning Vito peak. Along the way, enjoy meals and overnight stays in rural guesthouses while discovering Bosnia’s natural and cultural heritage on your own terms.

Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival in Sarajevo
Your journey begins with a private airport transfer upon arrival in Sarajevo. After checking in at your accommodation, take the evening to relax and get ready for the days ahead.

Day 2: Hike from Sarajevo City Centre to Trebević Mountain
The first hiking day starts right from Sarajevo’s city centre. You’ll take the cable car up Trebević, the closest Olympic mountain to the capital. The area is popular for its panoramic views and the famous abandoned Olympic bobsleigh track.

Ascent: 585 m
Walking time: approx. 4 hours

Day 3: Bjelašnica Hike to Observatory
Today’s route takes you from Babin Do up to Bjelašnica’s highest peak – the Observatory at 2,067 m. Though challenging, the climb offers stops for rest and incredible vistas.

Walking time: approx. 3.5 hours
Overnight on Bjelašnica mountain.
Day 4: Umoljani – Lukomir
Begin from the Dragon village of Umoljani, perched above the Oblj ridge. The trail leads to Lukomir, Bosnia’s highest village at 1,400 m. On your return, pass through Rakitnica Canyon with views of the winding creek far below.

Day 5: Tušila – Vito Summit
Start from Tušila Mountain Hut and trek through the Visočica range toward Vito Summit. The route includes a steep ascent and breathtaking ridgeline views, with stops at Veliko brdo, Malo brdo, and Drstva.

Ascent: 799 m
Walking time: approx. 3.5 hours
Overnight in Tušila.
Day 6: Departure from Sarajevo
