Stop 1: Travel from Sarajevo through Eastern Bosnia
The tour begins with a morning departure from Sarajevo, heading east through the stunning mountain landscapes of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the drive, your guide will share historical background and context surrounding the events of the early 1990s, helping you understand how this region found itself at the centre of one of the most tragic chapters in recent European history.
Stop 2: Visit to the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Center in Potočari
Upon arrival in Potočari, you will visit the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Center. This site serves as a place of remembrance for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, where more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were murdered in July 1995 despite the area being declared a United Nations safe zone.
The memorial complex includes a vast cemetery, a museum with original photo and video exhibitions, and the former Dutch Battalion headquarters which now houses displays created by survivors. These exhibitions provide powerful insight into the scale of the genocide and its impact on the local population. The former UN base holds some of the most emotionally charged exhibits, showing the brutal reality of ethnic cleansing in modern Europe.
Stop 3: Optional Meeting with Survivors
At your request, we can arrange a meeting with a survivor of the Srebrenica genocide. This encounter offers the opportunity to hear first-hand testimony about the events of July 1995 and the difficult journey of recovery and remembrance that followed. These moments are among the most meaningful parts of the experience and provide deep personal understanding beyond what can be learned from exhibits and documentaries.
Stop 4: Srebrenica Town and Natural Springs
The tour continues into the town of Srebrenica itself, where you will explore local life after the genocide and learn how the community is working toward healing and rebuilding. Your guide will take you to the nearby mineral springs, known for their high concentration of iron, cobalt, nickel, manganese and copper. These springs have long been valued for their medicinal properties and may one day support the town’s development and economic renewal.
